More Computer rip off repairs..

I was looking on Craig List today and I stumbled upon a section on computer repair. I looked at a few of these posts and I was amazed at what these people charged the computer challenged users.

Here are a few examples of what I am talking about:

Operating System Installation and Troubleshooting(software not included)

-Windows XP Home and Professional................$189.99
-Windows Vista(all editions)............................$189.99

$190.00 for these people to install Windows for me...but wait I must give them the software....So I must give them almost $200.00 for them to put the cd in my computer and click a few times? But wait there is more......

Software Installation and Updates(software not included)
-Anti-virus,Anti-spyware,Anti-fishing...............$89.98
-MicrosoftOffice(Word,Excel,Access,Outlook, PowerPoint,etc).......................................$89.98

Again $90.00 for them to install software I have to buy and they will do the hard work of putting the cd in the drive and click the continue button for me..

Let me add that 3 is many free alternatives to Anti-Virus and Office...

Microsoft Office Free version OPEN OFFICE

Free very good virus scanner Avast

I saved the best for last

Wireless Network Installation and Troubleshooting
Wireless Network Set Up................................$99.99
Wireless Security Set Up................................$139.99
Printer Intallation and Troubleshooting............$49.98

So the way that I read this they will come to my house plug in my router and connect my Ethernet cable up for just $100.00...but wait...if I want it so people can not leach my internet connection off of me.. it will cost me another $40.00 for them to click a few setting.....MMMmmm why did I ever do this myself?

People what I am getting at is if you know computers and you see others and know others that are computer challenged, please help them out it does not take that long and you will feel better in the long run...just think someones grandparents are spending their money they have for retirement on these people that feed off of the old and not so knowledgeable.

I got my prices right from this website.... if you get a chance give a email let them know how much you like the prices.....

Video Hosting?

Looking for a website to host your video's that you have? Well for the longest time I have been using YouTube to host all of my video's until I found a site called Viddler. Viddler makes your video's look very close to what you recorded, and lets you upload bigger files than YouTube.

Here is a short video that I uploaded to YouTube and Viddler. You decide for yourself where you would like to share your video's.

My own review of the Nokia N810

I recently went online and bought a Nokia N810. What is a Nokia N810 you may ask? Well CLICK HERE for a picture and information on this device.

Now here is my story and what I thought about this device. I received the N810 about 2 days after ordering it. I opened up the box and but it on the charger, let it charged to whatever Nokia told me to do. After it was charged fully I turned it on , did the setup name, time zone,etc.,.... you know the drill. I installed the Skype application and this worked great. Surfing the internet was ok very small to view and the keyboard was very small to use with someone with big hands like myself. But I was loving it...I could surf the internet when I had a WIFI connection! So after about 2 hours of playing around with it I shut it off, returned back to it half hour later and it would not turn on? I was like WAAAAaaaa? I tried taking the battery out to reset it and all the tricks I could think of doing. Still nothing, I could not turn this thing back on. So I got out the old owners manual and looked up the costumer service number for Nokia. I called them up and I was told to take the battery out and push a few buttons on the N810 to drain any kind of life it had in it out. I did this and still nothing it would not turn on, so Nokia tech support told me to send it back to the place I purchased it from for the one that I have is defective.
I hung up with them and felt a little upset but I just said to myself ok I will just get another one and this one will be ok. Boy was I wrong.............

A few days later I received my second Nokia N810, did everyting like I did the same time and guess what? This one would not turn back on either after playing with it for a few hours and turning it back on a little later. Now I am getting very upset...So I dig deeper and try to find out what the heck is going wrong with these things 2 for 2 now. I put it back on the charger and nothing on the display came up that it was charging like it did when I first got it. It was just dead all the way here at this point. I was like ok I will just leave it on the charger for a few hours and see what happens.....I wait....and wait....few hours up.....and try to turn it on and NOTHING still dead! Now I take out my Fluke Multi meter and check the voltage on the battery......it's fully charged....So its not the battery or the charger.....Now I am stumped, I know if I call Nokia what they are going to tell me so I do some research of my own on the internet. After about an hour of searching I see many people have been having the same problem that I have been having. And digging deeper I found one suggestion that did solve the not turning on problem.

You ready for this?

You take the Nokia N810 and put it in a freezer bag and put it in the freezer for a few hours. Laugh all you want it works. Now I did not do this that way I put it in a freezer bag and I had a can of compressed Freeze spay. This sped up the process, and guess what it turned on. I was like great now I solved that problem but to me this is not a fix. If I am going to impress my friends with this Nokia N810 taking it out with a bag and a can of freeze to turn it on will not impress them.

So I was getting ready to send this back and I tried on last place.....Nokia website. I found on there a program you could download to upgrade the firmware on the Nokia N810. I was like ok what do I have to loose if the firmware is really old maybe it was a bug and they fixed it...I downloaded the program and upgraded the firmware. And now it ALWAYS turns on and off for me after the upgrade. Now keep in mind Nokia's very own tech support did not even know this or even ask me what firmware version I had. So I called up Nokia again after a few days after I knew this really did solve the problem, and I explained to them what I did. I hope they added my information in there data base for other customers that have the same problem.

Now I ended up still sending the N810 back because one of the main reasons why I wanted it was for the GPS that it had. One problem is that it takes up to 4 min to connect to the satellites. So turn on the N810 in your car with clear view of the sky and just sit and wait a few min before you leave. And also the other problem is several times it would take me 35-40 min AWAY from the place I wanted to go.

Thinking about calling a computer tech?

I have received many comments from people about how they got ripped off from computer techs. Here is a short video that may or may not open up your eyes.

Keep in mind when you take your computer to say ohhh Best Buy the people behind the counter that are going to fix your computer are not getting paid that much....so in you knowing this how much do you think they know if they are not getting paid well?

Free Virus Scanner

Tired Of spending money each year for a virus scanner? Still set on using windows? Well I have a FREE virus scanner for you that will scan in REAL time just like the ones you pay for. The problem with the big name virus scanners are they bog your computer down and it seem like they scan every key stroke you do... Remember how fast your computer ran until you added Mcafee, or Norton? This Virus scanner that I will give you the link to scans everything in real time for you just like these 2 big virus scanner programs. The Bigger company's like to give you the virus scanners for your computer but they also want to sell you all the addons like Internet security etc...etc.... these programs are great if you have a SUPER FAST computer and don't mind having this program scan every page every thing for you and slow you down to dial up internet speeds. Here is the thing if you dumb enough to click on stuff and believe everything you see on web pages (EXAMPLE:YOUR COMPUTER IS INFECTED WITH NASTY STUFF CLICK HERE TO DOWNLOAD THIS FREE PROGRAM THAT WILL REMOVE IT!) then their is no real way to totally protect you from those nasty people out there on the internet. The BEST virus protection is the USER not the Software. NO virus scanner can protect you from everything out there so with this in mind THINK before you CLICK!

But anyways here is the link to the FREE virus scanner:

Now when you download this it will work FREE for 60 days so this will not work for you so you will need to register with them.....this will give you a free ONE year and every time you are about to run out you simply need to re register. Just give them a few bits of info about yourself and they will email you a registration code...it took about 2 min for them to send me one. So its best to download the virus scanner program....register wait till they mail you the registration code and then install the program and put in the code that they gave you...it will save you some trouble in finding where to enter the code if you install before you get the code.. if you have any problems with install drop me a line here....

Here is the link to register:
